Let’s be honest, we all love a good discount store! If you had to ask me my favourite place to shop it would definitely be Homegoods. You never know what you’re going to find and there’s a new shipment of stock multiple times each week. Whether you’re shopping at T.J Maxx, Homegoods or Marshalls, there are definitely guidelines to follow to increase your chances of a successful shopping trip.

1. Go at the right time

The first trick I learned with discount shopping is that you have to go at the right time. I’ve found that weekday mornings are best. There is usually more restocking on weekdays; by the time the weekend rolls around everything can be picked over.

2. Keep an open mind

The second tip I learned was to shop with an open mind. Don’t go into a discount store looking for a specific item because the chances of finding it are pretty slim. Keep your blinders off and you’ll be amazed at what you’ll find! Some of my favourite items are just random finds on shelves.

3. Go through every section of the store

The next tip I have is to go through every section of the store. There have been countless times I’ve found great art in the kitchen section and fabulous dish-ware in the frame section. Going along with that notion, it’s important to look diligently through every shelf of the store. You can find some great items hidden toward the back of a shelf!

4. Always purchase when in doubt

My final tip for shopping at a discount store is to always purchase an item when in doubt. Most discount stores like Homegoods and T.J Maxx have fabulous return policies. It’s always better to buy and return than to not buy at all and regret!
